Los Alamos National Laboratory Program Manager 2 (non-technical) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Plutonium Infrastructure (ALDPI) is seeking a highly motivated Program Manager 2 (non-technical) for its Nuclear Operations Integration function. ALDPI manages the execution of major capital projects related to infrastructure required to meet plutonium pit production deliverables. The successful candidate will work with internal and external stakeholders to identify which processes need to be improved, then organize and lead teams to analyze the current processes and develop recommendations on how to improve those processes. The program manager will work with various organizations and managers and play a vital role in the implementing of ALDPI initiatives by tracking programmatic tasks and providing reports on deliverables and milestone statuses for the ALDPI projects and process improvement events.

This challenging and exciting position requires motivated and professional individual who is capable of quickly changing focus, acting independently, and is comfortable with a broadly defined scope of work.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience in the area of program development activities, goals and objectives; creating program evaluation tools and evaluating the effectiveness of a program;

  • Experience in the application of theories, principles and procedures in the area of assignment;

  • Experience in coordinating high-level internal and external visits;

  • Experience handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound, independent judgment within general policy and legal guidelines; and

  • Experience in developing effective presentations and reports for individuals and groups; including data gathering and preparing clear, concise and informative reports, correspondence and other written materials; this position requires excellent oral and written communication skills

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational structure, policy and procedure governance and implementation.

  • Proficiency in multiple laboratory-wide business systems to include Oracle, Time and Labor, Concur, Ariba, MicroStrategy, video conferencing, computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), and LANL reporting tools.

  • Knowledge of the Weapons Program to include the ALDWP organization, major programs and facilities.

  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which usually requires U.S. citizenship.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting line item capital projects for NNSA reviews while following DOE 413.3b guidelines.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting operations in a nuclear facility for NNSA reviews and other stakeholder reviews while following DOE Order 422.1 guidelines.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
