What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an enthusiastic senior-level Project Engineering Technologists with an interest in building systems and infrastructure to work in the Engineering Services – Engineering Project Delivery (ES-EPD) group. This posting is for multiple Engineering Technologist positions to serve under the Project Engineering team with a focus on technical leadership and project delivery. Projects include new facility construction; existing facility upgrades or modifications; expense funded construction activities; and/or decommissioning/demolition.
As a Project Engineer, you will act as the lead technical representative for engineering activities related to the planning, design, execution, and closeout of projects. You will be expected to lead and manage development of projects with an integrated project team (IPT) that includes both customers, stakeholders, subject matter experts and others.

Manage engineering design efforts for both internal and external engineering design teams; manage design reviews, and assure changes are implemented by facilitating the resolution of comments, and ensure delivery of the design product.
Manage technical requirements and issues during construction, including coordinating designer-constructor interface, design changes, submittal reviews, inspection documentation, request for information (RFI), commissioning, and certificate of occupancy process.
Lead an integrated project team to assure substantial completion, punch-list, as built and turnover process is correctly implemented for project closeout.
Resolve a wide range of design and constructability issues in creative ways that adhere to codes and standards; and provide resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems.
Contribute to the Project Engineering Team and Engineering Services Division as a leader to improve overall performance of the team, or organization.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Effectively communicate and develop engineering solutions both verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel.
Plan, forecast, and identify necessary engineering resources to support project workload requirements; reviewing project engineering progress against approved schedules and budgets; evaluating changes; and taking corrective action when required.
Expert knowledge of engineering design processes and procedures, including industry codes, standards and the ability to perform work in accordance with the LANL Conduct of Engineering (CoE).
Extensive experienced with projects in contracting, construction, change management, and engagement with field personnel.
Advanced understanding of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), performance reporting, and variance analysis.
Proven ability to conduct independent work and mentor others in the application of engineering techniques.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’ Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Expert knowledge of DOE Standards and if previously employed by LANL, LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering principals and procedures.
