What You Will Do

The Materials Recovery and Recycle Group (AMPP-4) is seeking an exceptional postdoctoral candidate in radiochemistry and corrosion science. The successful candidate will perform research in a range of fundamental and applied research projects such as developing and implementing methods that will aid in the understanding of aging in pure plutonium oxide and chloride salt bearing plutonium oxide. The successful candidate will be joining the Materials Identification and surveillance (MIS) team composed of chemists and engineers.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Sound academic training in radiochemistry.

  • In-depth hands-on experience with radioactive material in a laboratory setting.

  • Proven experience and demonstrated fundamental understanding of the following concepts: radioactivity and nuclear decay; radiation damage; materials aging; and various analytical methodologies.

  • Creative and proactive approach to scientific problem solving.

  • Strong record of effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications/reports.

  • Demonstrated experience working independently as well as within a team environment.

  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in radiation damage.

  • Experience in plutonium oxide aging due to self-radiation.

  • Experience in salt radiation damage.

  • Experience in corrosion of stainless steel.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in working in a glovebox environment.

  • Active Q clearance.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
