What You Will Do
The Non-Destructive Testing & Evaluation (NDTE) Group (E-6) of the Engineering Technology & Design Division requires an energetic, customer-focused engineering professional for its operations. You will work independently and within a team of personnel performing and evaluating non-destructive testing of nuclear weapons and related components, including reporting upon and communicating results to E-6’s large customer base. Your work environment will involve moderate hazards and classified settings, requiring demonstration of a strong commitment toward safety and security. The selected candidate will be expected to work independently and as a member of a team on challenging concurrent projects, which require close cooperation, adaptability, initiative.
The primary responsibility of the selected candidate will be working with a team of interdisciplinary personnel in a manufacturing-focused environment, performing and evaluating non-destructive tests of nuclear weapons and related components. The non-destructive testing modalities that the selected candidate will employ could include, but are not limited to: Radiographic Inspection, Computed Tomography, Ultrasonic Inspection, Eddy Current Inspection, and Penetrant Inspection.
The selected candidate is expected to receive certification(s) to at least Level II, and up to a Level III, within one or more non- destructive testing modalities including, but not limited to: Radiographic Inspection, Computed Tomography, Ultrasonic Inspection, Eddy Current Inspection, and Penetrant Inspection.
The selected candidate will participate in streamlining, optimization, and improvement of various E-6 operations, including decreasing impacts to personnel, facilities, and the environment through efficiency and formality of manufacturing NDT inspections. They will also be required to write technical operating procedures in a clear and coherent manner.
The selected candidate will be an active participant in professional societies, National Nuclear Security Administration/Department of Energy interactions, special assignments, and/or external special interest groups. Further, they may participate in external working groups and/or assist in organizing meetings and/or colloquia.
Lastly, the selected candidate will actively contribute to development of present and future workforce through collaborations and mentorship.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
The applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of and experience in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: aerospace, electrical, mechanical, nuclear, or other R&D engineering field. The applicant must also have experience in recognizing technical problems and applying analysis and test protocols to identify suitable solutions, effectively document those solutions, and communicate results.
The applicant must have experience working with nominal supervision, as well as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment, and interacting effectively with a variety of organizations.
The applicant must have excellent technical writing, interpersonal, verbal / written communication skills, and the ability to adapt those skills to varying levels of management and staff. Additionally, the applicant must have experience in customer service and establishing strong customer connections.
The applicant must have experience in prioritizing technical work tasks on multiple projects, while working within safety and security parameters.
The applicant must have experience to demonstrate their commitment to safety, security, and compliance.
The applicant must be able to obtain a DOE Q-clearance and a HRP certification.

Education/Experience: This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
The applicant has experience in one or more of the following non-destructive testing modalities: Radiographic Inspection, Computed Tomography, Ultrasonic Inspection, Eddy Current Inspection, or Penetrant Inspection. The applicant has experience in implementing and/or using robotics to automate NDT inspections or other manufacturing-type processes. The applicant has experience in analyzing large data sets of varying types for anomalies (emphasis on NDT inspections preferred).
Hazardous Work Environments
The applicant has experience working in moderate hazard work areas (e.g. explosives handling, radiation, fissile material, electrical) and knowledge of process hazard analyses, development of integrated work documents (i.e. safety documents) and detailed operating procedures, and safety basis operations.
Nuclear Weapons Knowledge
The applicant has knowledge of LANL weapon systems, subsystems, and components.
The applicant holds an active DOE Q clearance.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
