Los Alamos National Laboratory Reliability Engineer (Engineer 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Responsible to the MSS Maintenance Programs Manager for determine the reliability of components, equipment and processes. By documenting, prioritizing, planning, delivering and evaluating a plant’s operations, the Reliability Engineer will help minimize the risk and impact of failure in equipment and processes.

The Maintenance Reliability Engineer focuses on areas such as: loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management. Each LANL Facility Operations Director (FOD) is structured slightly differently so daily tasks and responsibilities will vary, but the core function of this position will be preventing failures within a manufacturing/engineering setting.

The Maintenance Reliability Engineer will also conduct analysis into how operations can cut costs while not increasing the risk of failures/limitations. This involves having a comprehensive understanding of all the different elements of the process and testing to find potential answers. In addition to identifying potential failures, the Maintenance Reliability Engineer will identify root causes and underlying reasons for identified issues and work towards continual improvements.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems.

  • Experience with Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Inspectability (RAMI) Analysis

  • Knowledge/understanding of engineering work planning and control methods.

  • Knowledge/understanding of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies.

  • Working knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to maintenance and reliability.

  • Experience with project and process engineering practices.

  • Sound knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, and appropriate standards.

Education:

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years’ practical work experience.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year .

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
