What You Will Do
A Research Technician 3 works at the skilled level and has demonstrated technical skills and knowledge, and is recognized as a specialist. The selected candidate will work under consultative direction with comprehensive understanding of the general and technical aspects of the job. Follows General Operating Procedures, and Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) to produce quality products. This position requires knowledge of Conduct of Operations, nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological safety, and environmental compliance requirements.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provide technical support in one or more of the following areas: chemical processing; materials science; special nuclear material processing and movements to include assembly and disassembly; or movement of waste and non-waste items for processing and storage.
Provide general process and operational support, including nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, glovebox maintenance, radiological protection, perform respirator work, and waste minimization and management.
Safely handle radioactive materials/items inside the plutonium facility (PF-4).
Writing and maintaining records, following detailed operating procedures and integrated work documents, writing concise progress reports, and frequent interaction with support organizations.
Performs transactions on the LANMAS computer system.
Strong partnership and interactive communications to ensure processing equipment and experiments are operated safely in accordance with Group, Facility and Laboratory policies and procedures.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge in one or more of the following: chemical processing; assembly & disassembly operations; operating & repairing mechanical equipment and systems; equipment calibration; nuclear waste management; nuclear materials handling; high vacuum and pressure systems; optical and laser systems; or equipment testing and inspection.
Demonstrated experience working to technical objectives of assignments.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively, conscientiously and professionally in a high performance team environment that exhibits collaborative behavior.
Proven knowledge and implementation of required safety practices for work assignments.
Basic knowledge of computer systems and applications such as, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge investigating solutions to problems affecting project requirements, and recommend alternative approaches as appropriate.
Knowledge and implementation of required safety, security, and quality assurance practices for the work assignment, including calibration concepts and protocols as appropriate.
Knowledge of working with Nuclear Material
Active Q clearance
Education Required: Position typically requires an associate's degree in a relevant field and a three-to-five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
