What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for a Transportation Specialist 2 to support the Readiness, Packaging, and Transportation (RPT-PT) team.
If you have interest in coordinating, scheduling and transporting of nuclear and/or hazardous material and compressed gas throughout the Los Alamos National Laboratory, we want you to join our team.
As a Transportation Specialist, you will be securing and un-securing of containers on transport vehicles in accordance with federal motor carrier safety requirements, 49 CFR Hazardous Material Regulations, Department of Transportation and other LANL policy and procedures, and transporting such materials to a venue of locations, all while ensuring hazardous materials results, materials, processes and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
What You Need
At this level, you will need a Class A driver's license with a hazardous materials and tanker endorsement; be trained and qualified in accordance with 49 CFR Part 172, Subpart H; be able to follow procedures affecting nuclear and/or hazardous material transportation; able to provide resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors; and contribute to the development of organization's goals and objectives, all while working under limited direction.
As such, your familiarity, knowledge, and or experience in hazardous materials/compressed gases and/or nuclear materials packaging and transportation; federal, state and local hazardous materials standards and regulations, will make a great addition to our team.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Class A commercial driver's license with hazardous materials and tanker endorsement.
Knowledge and experience in hazardous materials/compressed gases and/or nuclear materials packaging and transportation.
Knowledge of federal, state and local hazardous materials standards and regulations.
Basic knowledge in safety basis and implementation of transportation safety documents.
Knowledge of Type B tie-down procedures.
Education/Experience: Position typically requires a high school diploma, or GED, and a minimum of five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of transporting nuclear materials when not in compliance with the regulations.
Thorough knowledge of integrated safety and security programs.
Working knowledge of the Laboratory's conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations, and quality assurance programs.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
