What You Will Do
As a SCIF Security Specialist 1 within the Sensitive and Special Operations Division (SSO), you will support Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and Field Intelligence Element (FIE) activities by providing excellent customer service to internal and external users of these high security facilities and systems. We are looking for someone who can respond effectively to a wide array of security related inquires in a highly dynamic and compliance-driven environment. You will be responsible for maintaining compliance with LANL and DOE policies and procedures governing facility operations and expected to make on-going recommendations for improvement of operations and work activities. You will also provide backup support and assistance to security personnel in different areas, as needed. On-the-job training (OJT) and external training will be provided to ensure you are properly certified to perform assigned functions and be successful in a challenging, rewarding environment. This position reports to Division management and receives direct supervision and instruction from the Alternate Sensitive Security Officer (ASSO) and Personnel Security staff responsible for applicable topical areas.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret, adhere to, and apply regulatory guidelines and security policies and procedures, including being detail oriented, maintaining rigorous compliance, and providing information on security operations.
Excellent customer services skills, including the ability to effectively interact with a diverse customer set and build customer relations by responding in a timely manner, researching and providing accurate information and direction to a wide array of inquiries, and promoting cooperation.
Basic relevant experience and knowledge in LANL security and safeguard policies, practices, and procedures.
A strong record of teamwork and flexibility.
General knowledge and basic experience with LANL Personnel Security responsibilities such as badging, report preparation, clearance processing, visits, verifications and related records management.

Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Ability to prepare and present security and safeguards reports in relation to SCIF operations.
Skilled in conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security & safeguards.
Experience working in a classified environment.
Experience working in a SCIF, SAPF, or other high security environment.
Active Q and SCI clearance.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
