Los Alamos National Laboratory Security Specialist 4 (Deployed Security - Mercury, Nevada) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Security Specialist 4 (Deployed Security - Mercury, Nevada) will report to the SAFE-DS Group Leader and will support a variety of experimental projects and programs conducted at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) under the purview of the Joint Laboratory Operations Nevada (JLON). The Joint Laboratory Office Nevada (JLON) assists scientists and engineers that directly support the Laboratories nuclear stockpile stewardship initiatives. The Security Specialist 4 (Deployed Security-Nevada) will ensure security is integrated and conducted according to Department of Energy (DOE) security requirements, into all LANL activities at the Nevada National Security Site.
This position is located inMercury, Nevada and requires a4-day, 10-hour work schedule.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Develop, maintain, and improve vital JLON/LANL security policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with LANL/Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS) security programs such as Information Protection, Physical Security, Personnel Security, Foreign Visits and Assignments, and Security Incidents.
Provide accurate, effective and timely communication regarding the implementation of JLON/LANL security policies, procedures, and practices to employees and other organizations.
Interface with the NNSS Management and Operating (M&O) Contractor on site-wide security programs and processes.
Ensure incidents are properly reported and managed.
Assess the scope of work, determine risks, threats and vulnerabilities, and coordinate and implement security risk mitigation strategies on behalf of JLON andLANL security responsible line managers.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Specialized knowledge and experience in one or more of the following security areas: personnelsecurity, access control, classiﬁed matter protection and control, physical security, foreign visits and assignments, protection program operations, or cybersecurity, and vulnerability assessments.
Extensive experience building strong working relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
Specialized experience conducting security & safeguards self-assessments, audits, inspections, causal analysis, and corrective actions.
Extensive demonstrated skill with oral and written communication skills including experience developing and presenting brieﬁngs and trainings to managers and employees.
Advanced experience with reporting and developing corrective actions resulting from security incidents.
Active Q clearance and HRP.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with security & safeguards functions such as, inquiries, identification of vulnerabilities, and assessment of risks.
Knowledge of JLON policies and operational familiarity with executing work at the NNSS.
Previous experience as a deployed security officer.
Ability to effectively communicate with senior-level leaders at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), MSTS, JLON, and Nevada Field Office (NFO).
Education Required: Position typically requires a Master’s degree in Security, Law Enforcement, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Typically requires a minimum of 12+ years of related experience. At this level, postgraduate coursework may be expected. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.

Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
