What You Will Do
The Intelligence & Systems Analysis group (A-2) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist to join our world-class team. The successful candidate will directly support one or more of A-2’s five pillars: foreign weapons analysis, global nuclear security, nuclear terrorism, nonproliferation, and emergency response. They will work within a team environment to provide technical input and support the completion of analyses on highly complex national security problems that may involve multiple variables, varying degrees of information quality and reliability, and numerous interconnected relationships.
The position requires leadership in a team environment whose mission is to understand the USG’s adversaries and to advise the USG on complex, technical national security questions, often in an environment of sparse data. The successful candidate will directly contribute to the research and organization of source material and the writing of technical assessments compliant with US Intelligence Community (IC) guidelines. The position requires advanced research capabilities and the ability to write and present well‐crafted, logical, technical analyses to a wide range of audiences.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Internationally recognized Scientist in either a broad discipline or narrow, intensely specialized field. Has the ability to translate international needs into technological objectives and goals. Champions long-range positions on programs and technologies for Laboratory management consideration. Authors seminal reports and/or publications that often obtain far-reaching and influential impact within the engineering/scientific community.
Conducts work that addresses broad national/international issues, influences the "national agenda" for addressing problems, and leads the development of new strategic initiatives and/or expanded technical capabilities that will impact the future of the Laboratory. Expert ability to develop solutions for critically important and extremely complex problems that directly effect the Laboratory's technical capabilities, positioning, and international reputation. Serves as an authority in technical decision-making and direction at national and/or international levels.
Leadership & Teaming:
Ability to build national, multi-disciplinary or intensely focused teams, serve as a technical resource, and mentor to communities external to the Laboratory. Represents and can negotiate Laboratory participation in large, national and/or international projects. Consistently interacts with Laboratory and/or governmental senior-level management.
Familiarity with Strategy & Consulting:
Ability to set and/or approve technical approaches for obtaining solutions to national and/or international technology challenges. Reviews, influences, and may propose strategic business investment objectives and plans that impact the future of the Laboratory. Consistently serves in a consultative role to senior-level Laboratory management and/or governmental management representatives.
Familiarity with Committees/Advisory Boards:
Experience serving on international advisory and/or policy boards. Sought out for peer review by senior-level Engineers and/or Scientists and may lead peer review committees at a national level.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Master’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and 15 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Experience working with DOE, IC and/or DOD as a sponsor.
Understanding of how the US IC functions, including the roles of its member agencies.
Understanding of structured analytic techniques.
Understanding of IC resources available to analysts.
Experience in leading the composition of intelligence assessments compliant with US IC norms and pertaining to global political, economic, social, scientific, fiscal, and/or military conditions.
Experience peer reviewing intelligence assessments.

This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
