Los Alamos National Laboratory Signals & Sensing Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do_
The Space and Remote Sensing Group (ISR-2) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Researcher to execute cutting edge research and development in signal processing and measurement with emphasis on ultrasonic waves and other time-series measurements. Areas of research and development that the successful candidate will participate in include the following:
Developing new algorithms for processing and extracting information from spatial-temporal signals, including, but not limited to, full-field acoustic/ultrasonic response measurements
Designing and prototyping new inspection technology using laser-Doppler vibrometry and other remote sensing techniques
Source-to-sensor modeling, including modeling of source physics, signal propagation, sensor performance, and the validation of the data processing and analysis algorithms
Applying signal processing capabilities to a range national security applications that involve several remote sensing phenomenology, including seismic, acoustic, radio-frequency, and optical signals.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge and experience with conducting applied research in acoustics/ultrasonics or related field (radar, sonar, seismology, etc.), including designing and executing experiments
Experience with the application of basic techniques in signal processing and/or statistical detection theory
Working knowledge of acoustic/ultrasonic or related sensors and data acquisition systems
Experience with applied computing to process, analyze, and interpret data, and demonstrable knowledge of one or more scientific programming languages (e.g. Matlab, Python, C/C++)
Ability to interact effectively in a team environment and ability to work independently
Ability to express ideas clearly in written and oral communications
Ability to conduct field experiments at various national and potentially international locations
Eligible to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (which generally requires U.S. citizenship)
Experience with laser Doppler vibrometry and/or laser-ultrasound
Experience with modeling acoustic wave propagation, or similar phenomenology
Experience with designing, building, programming, and/or testing custom ultrasonic inspection systems (or a related technology)
Experience with object-oriented programming and source control
Education:PhD in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, physics, or a related field, completed within the last 5 years or soon to be completed, is required.
