Los Alamos National Laboratory Situ X-Ray Diffraction and Imaging Experiments and Simulations Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Physics and Chemistry of Materials and Plasma Physics groups in the Theoretical and Physics Divisions of Los Alamos National Laboratory are seeking outstanding candidates for one or more post-doctoral research associates in the areas of in situ x-ray diffraction and imaging experiments and simulations. The groups conduct research in the implementation, fielding, and interpretation of in situ x-ray diagnostics in time-resolved impact experiments. This is a multi-disciplinary group with backgrounds and experience in diverse fields of engineering, applied physics, computational methods, and applied mathematics. Collaborations with other Laboratory organizations, the Department of Defense, private industry, and academia are encouraged. Post-doctoral research associates in the following areas are being pursued:
(1) Development, implementation and application of x-ray diffraction and phase contrast imaging diagnostics
(2) Simulation of x-ray diagnostics through development of instrument response functions, including detector resolution, beam coherence, detector system efficiency and signal-to-noise
(3) Development, implementation and application of advanced algorithms and statistics for interpreting data and extracting measures of mesoscale material response
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Applicants should have received a Ph.D. or equivalent degree within the last five years in mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, physics, chemistry, applied mathematics, optical sciences, or a closely related field. A strong background and demonstrated research experience in applied physics/mathematics/crystallography and experimentation or a related field; demonstrated experience in diffraction modeling and propagation methods, phase retrieval methods; excellent oral and written communication skills; and the ability to work in both team and independent research environments.
Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
