Los Alamos National Laboratory Software Developer 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

As a member of our Software Development staff in the Software Applications and Engineering Group (SAE-3), you will have the opportunity to work and grow in an exciting and challenging environment dedicated to delivering quality software using modern technologies. As part of our diverse multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to grow in the areas of programming,software architecture, User Experience design (UX), Agile software development and software engineering.

Software Developer 2 ($75,400.00 - $122,900.00)

Working alongside some of the brightest minds, you will support the development and maintenance of various internal and external applications. You will also help develop and maintain Laboratory web based applications. Specific duties include tasks associated with the upkeep of various laboratory applications, the design and development of new applications and standards, and ensuring compliance with Laboratory specifications, standards, and security policies.

We are looking for someone who likes to self-initiate work with limited supervision, use independent judgment for determining course of action to accomplish objectives, and use a broad range of advanced technical skills to solve complex technical issues and be involved in mentoring junior staff members.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience managing and configuring COTS applications.

  • Experience gathering and documenting customer requirements.

  • Experience designing, developing, modifying, testing, debugging and evaluating software to meet customer requirements.

  • Experience implementing, upgrading, supporting, extending and enhancing Commercial off the Shelf Products (COTS).

  • Experience with software configuration management and software quality assurance methodologies.

  • Experience programming in .NET in a SQL Server environment.

  • Experience programming in C++ or other Object Oriented Language such as C# or Java.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Agile concepts such as Scrum or Kanban.

  • Experience with Jira, Remedy, ServiceNow or other tracking systems.

  • Experience with any of the following technologies: AngularJS, Angular2+, Bootstrap, JavaScript Frameworks, jQuery Libraries, AJAX, HTML, ASP.NET (MVC/Web API).

  • Experience with HTML5, CSS, JSON, and AJAX Framework, secure coding practices, and JQuery and JavaScript libraries.

  • Knowledge and understanding of relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server)

  • Experience creating or using Web Services.


Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.


This Position typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
