What You Will Do

ITS is responsible for providing training to meet a wide range of Environment, Health, Safety, and other institutional training to meet regulatory requirements and for providing general training support to meet training needs in organizations throughout the Laboratory. The selectee will be specifically responsible for the development, delivery and management of task and organization-specific training.

Additional responsibilities may include the development of qualification standards, tracking training needs, running training compliance reports, maintaining training records for customer organization, and providing general guidance on training processes and requirements to the organizations they support.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) orders and standards pertaining to training.

  • Working knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) orders and standards pertaining to ES&H; and Safety Basis.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of common computer-based application (e.g., Microsoft Office).

  • Expertise in creating professional diagrams to simplify complex information with updated shapes, collaboration tools, and data-linked diagrams such as Visio or 3D PDMS Drawings.

  • Comprehensive understanding of Organization Design and Organizational Development as it relates to DOE.

  • Experience with applying instructional system design and development using the systematic approach to training (SAT).

  • Experience conducting analysis to design training and training programs.

  • Experience assessing and evaluating training programs.

  • Experienced in small classroom through auditorium presentation.

  • Working understanding of adult learning theory, principles, and application.

  • Experience with researching, identifying, and formally documenting training requirements in federal and state laws, regulations, orders, manuals, and standards, as well as other contractual requirements.

  • Demonstrated high-level project management skills.

  • Ability to obtain training metrics including data gathering, collection, analysis, trending, tracking, and reporting.

  • Advanced communication and presentation techniques in both written and spoken communications in the English language to various audiences ranging from peer to peer through senior management presentations.

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) orders and standards pertaining to training.

  • Working knowledge of Laboratory policies and procedures pertaining to training.

  • Working knowledge of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) as articulated in 40 CFR 260-280, and experience in analyzing, developing, and delivering waste management training.

  • Sound understanding of LANL’s learning management system (UTrain) and related information data systems (e.g., Oracle).

  • Qualification as a Training Specialist and Classroom Instructor per the LANL Training Staff Qualification Program (TSQP).

  • Understanding of automated learning technologies.

  • Experience in using performance-based training techniques.

  • Experience in designing, developing, authoring, and managing web-based training courses


  • BA/BS, MA/MS or equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Human Resources Management, and/or security and safeguards programs.

  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience.
