Los Alamos National Laboratory Staff Operations Manager 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Chief Information Office (CIO) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a Staff Operations Manager (SOM) to be a key member of a fast paced, high functioning executive management team. The position is visible across I&T and also works heavily with the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Business Management. The CIO SOM will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing operational and programmatic activities and deliverables requiring broad knowledge of information technology (IT) and cybersecurity. Responsibilities and initiatives include, but are not limited to, the following: developing Impact Assessments for new DOE and NNSA orders and requirements; implementing new systems or processes to improve efficiency of business objectives; developing slide decks to report on quarterly achievements, metrics and risks; performing assessments on areas of concerns and advising on solutions; improving hiring cycle time and developing a training curriculum; and leading and implementing other new initiatives as they arise.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of IT and cyber concepts, operations, and policy and strong communication and presentation skills, including technical writing.

  • Advanced knowledge of and successfully demonstrated experience with administrative management of business, operational, and/or programmatic activities.

  • Advanced knowledge of and successfully demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and managing innovation and process improvements, with respect to information technology, cyber and day to day activities.

  • Ability to function as a member of an executive management team, to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience in the area of information technology or cyber security.

  • Certifications and/or degrees related to information technology or cyber security.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Employee participation in the Telework Pilot may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
