What You Will Do
The Chemical Diagnostics and Engineering Group of the Chemistry Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral research associate position in synthetic biology. The positionis available within the next 1 – 4 months.The postdoc willwork closely with a large team of Ph.D. staff scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and techniciansas part of amulti-disciplinary research project within the Agile Biofoundry ( https://agilebiofoundry.org ). The Host Onboarding Team focused ondeveloping non-traditional hosts into bioproduction chassis. The primary focus for the position will be to develop transformation methods, genetic manipulation tools, reporters, biosensors and gene regulatory systems for non-traditional hosts.The postdoc will have the option of contributing to another project investigating uranium reduction by cytochromes and flavins.Experience with anaerobic systems is required. The successful candidate should have a strong publication record, open mind to explore boundaries of scientific fields, and ability to effectively communicate with researches with varied backgrounds. The postdoctoral research associate is expected to publish results of the work in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at well-known conferences.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Ph.D. in a STEM field received within the last 5 years
Expertise in synthetic biology/genetic engineering
Demonstrated strong experimental skills in anaerobic microbiology
A strong publication record (e.g. 3 to 4 publications arising from Ph.D.)
Excellent communication and writing skills in English language
Experience working with non-traditional host microorganisms, including fungi
Experience developing genetic modification tools and/or transformation techniques in microorganisms
Experience in biosensors and/or riboswitch platforms
Experience with extremophile
Protein purification and characterization
Ph.D. in Synthetic biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or closely related discipline completed within the last 5 years.
