What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Technical Project Manager 1/Technical Project Manager 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
You will support the Pit Technologies Division within ALDWP which is responsible for Pit manufacturing at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The technical project manager will be assigned to support projects in either PT-1 Pyrochemistry, PT-2 Plutonium Machining, PT-3 Assembly, or PT-4 Foundry operations.
You will act as the Technical Project Manager to coordinate and administer a project from project planning and execution through close-out. Establish and maintain customer relationships as well as manage customer expectations throughout the project to resolve problems and coordinate service functions. Participate in planning and establishing schedules, forecasts, budgets, parameters, etc., and monitor progress to assure schedules are met and work is performed within budget. May provide assistance in the review of contract documents. May be assigned responsibility for a specific area of a project such as construction, engineering, or services.
Technical Project Manager 1 ($75400 - $122900)
As the Project Manager 1, you will ensure that project objectives meet the customer’s scope requirements and are safely fulfilled within cost and schedule constraints. The Technical Project Manager 1 will be responsible and accountable for project success and will be responsible for reporting project status to the Division Leader. The TPM will be expected to identify risks associated with project execution and manage those risks to best meet the needs of the customers and the Laboratory overall mission requirements.
Technical Project Manager 2 ($91800 - $151400)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Technical Project Manager 2 will be required to: Assume responsibility and accountability for project success from cradle to grave and report project status to upper level management on a regular basis. The TPM 2 will be expected to identify risks associated with project execution on complex projects and manage those risks to best meet the needs of the customers and the Laboratory overall mission requirements.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Project Management :Knowledge and experience in most aspects of project management and project control activities with the ability to become proficient in all. Experience in developing operating and financial plans. Basic knowledge of project budgets including cost estimating, cost control and cost analysis, project scheduling, implementation of corrective actions, developing and delivering detailed and accurate status reports and basic knowledge of/and experience with engineering functions and principles required to understand and successfully implement and monitor technical projects. Knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tools and processes.
Knowledge and Skills: Technical comprehension of engineering, procurement, and construction techniques, including their interfaces and interdependencies.
Communication: Skilled in oral and written communication as well as applying team building concepts.

Project Management: Thorough knowledge of all aspects of project management tools and techniques relating to all project activities. Knowledge of project processes and an understanding of project management activities, such as planning, budgeting and performance measurement.
Risk Management: Working knowledge and experience in supporting strategic and tactical planning and execution of a mid-sized portfolio.Demonstrated record of successfully supporting or leading cross-organization teams to ensure complex technologies or products are delivered within budget and on schedule.
Education/Experience Technical Project Manager 1 :Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Technical Project Manager 2: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A Project Management Institute certification is preferred for this level.
Experience working with the Department of Energy (DOE) at headquarters and/or field office level, or with state and federal regulators.
Experience reporting to and communicating with multiple supervisory organizations.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
