Los Alamos National Laboratory Technical Project Manager 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Detonator Production (DP) is looking for a Technical Project Manager (TPM) to coordinate customer demand and scheduling to support the manufacture of high-explosive detonators and subcomponents. As one of the premier production agencies in the National Security Enterprise, DP works with a variety of stakeholders to provide high-quality products and services that support the nuclear stockpile, protect our nation, and promote world stability.

This position will serve as the primary point of contact for a portion of the W80-4 and W87-1 detonator production scope. The successful candidate will interact with external customers to identify project requirements. The TPM will collaborate with the DP management team, subject matter experts, and the production agency program office to develop and maintain the project plan for their assigned scope of work. The TPM will be the liaison between DP line management and the program office.

The successful candidate will work across technical organizations within the Associate Laboratory Directorate of Weapons Production (ALDWP), including manufacturing, engineering, and program management groups, as well as internal and external customers.

This position will report to the Team Lead of the Technical Project Management team within the Detonator Production Division Office. This team is responsible for providing technical project management over Detonator Production Division work scope and to maintain a technical baseline plan to achieve customer requirements.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Project Management: Professional level of knowledge and experience, at least eight years, in project management of technical or operational work, including the development of project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing to scope, schedule, budget, and technical baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.

Technical Knowledge: Ability to develop advanced knowledge of the technical or operational discipline of the assigned project.

Planning: Professional level experience planning and defining project scope through collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) and senior project managers. Working knowledge and experience in supporting tactical planning and execution of moderately large and/or complex technical projects.

Scheduling: Experience successfully coordinating multiple operations, balancing resources and priorities, and using software to schedule work.

Finance: Professional level experience managing cost and schedule commitments for moderately large and/or complex technical projects.

Leading Teams: Demonstrated record of successfully leading cross-organizational teams to ensure products and/or services are delivered within budget and on schedule.

Communication: Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written skills; demonstrated by relationships built, briefings, and presentations. Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

Education/Experience : Position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and at least eight years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree and a Project Management Institute certification is desired for this function and level.

Desired Qualifications:

Material Handling: Knowledge of material requirements planning (MRP) / enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools.

Manufacturing: Demonstrated experience working in a manufacturing environment and knowledge of production process workflows.

Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement (CI) efforts, such as Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other methodologies.

Nature of Work: Demonstrated experience interacting with DOE/NNSA and National Security Enterprise sites and complexes.

P rogram requirements: Demonstrated experience with the Defense Programs Business Process System requirements, including the product realization process.
