Los Alamos National Laboratory Technical Project Manager 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Technical Project Manager will report directly to the Safety Basis division leader and will provide support to project and programmatic activities encompassing all aspects and interactions of the division across LANL. Due to the diverse nature of SB-DO the successful candidate will need to support the creation and sustainment of constructive relationships with internal (programs, FOD and other divisions) and external (NA-LA, DNFSB) stakeholders. The Technical Project Manager will support the meeting of program’s deliverables in conjunction with the group leaders and the division leader, definition of project technical requirements, status of deliverables, and interface with technical and support organizations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support SB management and personnel with multi-disciplinary interactions with internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensure communication to program management on the critical products the SB-Division has delivered

  • Define the SB Program to accentuate the critical role that SB products play in accomplishing LANL’s mission

  • Help to develop the division’s resources in order to internally build the critical technical strengths needed

  • Help to manage updates and improvements to the procedures and policies that govern SB work

  • Ensure alignment between the various projects’ goals and the organizational goals

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge in strategic planning involving programs and/or projects

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the purpose of safety basis documents (DSA/TSR/SAD/USQ/USI) and their relative importance to LANL’s Mission

  • Experience with identifying and tracking value-added metrics for an organization

  • Experience with Assessments, Causal Analysis, and Risk Analysis

  • Provide support for the program by overseeing Issues Management, and resolving findings

  • Experience authoring policies or procedures as well as reviewing documents for compliance with program requirements

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Desired Skills

  • Familiar with how a Documented Safety Analysis and Unreviewed Safety Question Process contributes to a nuclear facility’s safe operating envelope

  • Knowledge on implementing safety basis requirements at a HC-2 or 3 Nuclear Facility

  • Knowledge of the various orders and guides governing the creation of a new HC-2 or 3 Nuclear Facility (i.e. DOE-STD-1189)

  • Demonstrated experience working with DOE regulators

  • Demonstrated experience executing software implementation or upgrade projects

  • PMI Certification (e.g. PMP, PgM)

  • Lean Six Sigma Certified

Education Required:

Position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, and eight years of related management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, MS is desirable.
