What You Will Do
The Science Resource Office (SRO) Peer Review and Metrics Team seeks an experienced metrics analyst. The main responsibility of the position will be the development, analysis and visualization of science, technology and engineering metrics and the development and maintenance of the data that supports the metrics. The STE metrics provide qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of the Laboratory’s STE, which is essential to understand the Laboratory’s ability to bring together diverse capabilities to address national needs. The job will also require assessing the impact of LANL STE including quantitative and qualitative metrics for knowledge generation and economic impacts, as well as qualitative measures for other impacts. The selected candidate must have the ability to use pre-developed methods to update metrics as well as be involved in the development of diverse and innovative analytical approaches to provide management with the data and analyses on the role of the Laboratory in the scientific enterprise. The ability to provide robust and meaningful data analysis is essential to illustrating and understanding the Laboratory’s supportive role in national STE Programs.
Responsible for the development, analysis, visualization and maintenance of STE metrics and supporting data that provide qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of the Laboratory’s ability to bring together diverse capabilities to address national needs.
Provide meaningful analysis and visualization for Laboratory management to enable evaluation of LANL’s contributions to the scientific enterprise.
Analyze trends in STE metrics as data become available using both internal and external databases.
Provide metrics in an easily understood format, with meaningful, and clear visualizations..
Develop qualitative and quantitative measures of STE impact to Laboratory mission and goals.
Contribute to the development of the capability to analyze the Laboratory’s role in the Laboratory in the national scientific enterprise.
Contribute to the implementation of the Pure Research Information System to manage the Laboratory’s STE data. Work with SRO team member to enter and maintain STE data for LANL staff in an efficient and effective manner.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated experience performing complex, analytical work with an attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
Demonstrated experience using analysis of quantitative information as indicators of a target variable that is not, itself, directly measurable
Proven success working independently and as a contributing member of a team, and ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and Laboratory management.
Demonstrated experience with tools and processes used to acquire, process and track metrics and producing analyses/reports of science, technology and/or engineering metrics.
Ability to develop and nurture effective customer relationships.
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the delivery of presentations and briefings to different levels of management and customers.
Experience using Microsoft Excel for data management and analysis

Demonstrated experience developing data visualizations that highlight relevant information including knowledge of various data visualization tools such as D-3, Tableau, and other pertinent software.
Experience working with bibliometric and other databases that contain Science, Technology and Engineering data, such as Web of Science and Scopus.
Experience with project management methodologies, concepts and tools.
Knowledge and experience producing reports and data analyses using XML databases.
Demonstrated record of success in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with researchers, staff, administrators, and other internal and external partners.
Experience with computer programming.
Education: Position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience; post-graduate coursework preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter.
