Los Alamos National Laboratory Theoretical Modeling and Computational Science Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution of science on behalf of national security. This is a two year position available immediately.
The Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics Group of Theoretical division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral appointment in the multidisciplinary of fluid, material science, solid, chemistry, shock-physics etc. of computational physics. The postdoc researcher will be expected to conduct fundamental, applied, and interdisciplinary research towards improving predictive capabilities of mechanically activated thermal chemistry model in modeling behavior of high explosives. The successful candidate will pursue model development, implementation, and validation against experimental data. Collaboration with experimental investigators, theoretical and computational chemists, and materials model developers will be essential.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- A doctoral degree in science, physics, applied mathematics or related fields completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.
Demonstrated record of achievements in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or solid mechanics code development.
Knowledge in chemically reacting flows.
Ability in written and oral communication.
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Programming experience with languages such as Fortran etc, for scientific applications
Experience in high explosive modeling or experiments.
Experience in damage and fracture modeling.
Education: Ph.D. in related field soon to be completed or completed within the last five years.
Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
