Job Information

Los Alamos National Laboratory Ultrafas Light-Matter Interactions in Quantum Materials Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

We are seeking outstanding candidates to fill a postdoctoral opening at the Laboratory for Ultrafast Materials and Optical Science (LUMOS), within the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The successful candidate will focus on performing ultrafast optical, terahertz, and X-ray spectroscopy of quantum materials, with a particular focus on using intense, ultrashort pulses to drive these materials into new states. Systems of interest include strongly correlated electron systems, topological materials, and low-dimensional quantum nanostructures. The experimental systems available for these projects include several amplified femtosecond laser systems with wavelengths tunable from soft X-ray to THz frequencies, high field superconducting magnets, scanning probe microscopy setups, and an angle-resolved photoemission system. Some studies may also be performed at national user facilities, such as the Advanced Photon Source and Linac Coherent Light Source. Successful candidates will be located at the LUMOS labs in Los Alamos.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Expertise in one or more of the following areas: femtosecond optical spectroscopy, terahertz spectroscopy, ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy, time-integrated optical spectroscopy (e.g., FTIR and UV-VIS spectroscopy), surface science, and photoemission spectroscopy. Strong background in condensed matter physics. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of ultrafast lasers, nonlinear optics, ultrahigh vacuum, Labview software and programming, data analysis/modeling using MATLAB, Igor Pro, or an equivalent program. A strong background in fundamental physical processes of topological materials, strongly correlated electron materials, and/or low-dimensional quantum nanostructures. Ability to work independently.

Education: A Ph. D in a relevant field completed within the past 5 years or soon to be completed.

Note to Applicants: For information please contact Sirica ( nsirica@lanl.gov , 505-667-9706) and Rohit Prasankumar (rpprasan@lanl.gov, 505-284-7966)
