This position will be filled at either the Research Technician 3 / Research Technician 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Research Technician 3 $61,600 - $96,500
The Isotope Program (IP) in Inorganic, Isotope, and Actinide Chemistry (C-IIAC) Group produces and purifies radionuclides for medical and industrial applications as well as for fundamental research. We are looking for a Research Technician to join the team supporting processing operations and program maintenance activities in the IP Hot Cell (HC) facility. The HC facility is a laboratory designed to safely handle high dose rate radiological materials, and includes over a dozen telemanipulators to remotely handle these materials. Mission thrust areas within the team include supporting new materials and separation processes, development of processing methods, and applications of accelerator-produced radioisotopes. These materials are used for cutting edge medical treatments, imaging for cancer and heart disease, for industrial uses for example in oil and gas exploration, and in national security and government uses. More information about the National program can be found at the National Isotope Development Center (NIDC) website at www.isotopes.gov.
The chosen candidate will work in a general laboratory space with specialized equipment to support isotope processing activities. In this position, you will be responsible for aiding in the processing of targets and isolation of radioisotopes. The work includes working with senior staff, following procedures specific to separation processes and sample analyses, quality control activities, waste management, and off-cycle maintenance efforts. A successful candidate must be able to work with radioactive materials and in radiologically contaminated areas, become respirator fit, and perform work with remote manipulators as part of a high performing team to meet deliverables for the IP.
Research Technician 4 $67,800 - $107,700
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will be responsible for the processing of targets and isolation of radioisotopes. The work includes reviewing and editing procedures and other documents related to separation processes and sample analyses, preparing material and paperwork for shipping, analyzing or validating results and reporting data. Performs normal aspects of job independently with limited supervision, performs non-routine tasks requiring the exercise of independent judgment, and occasionally works without appreciable direction.
