At Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Infrastructure Services and Design - Telecommunication Services group (ISDTS) is seeking an experienced network professional to manage various communications systems and equipment. This position will be responsible for the 24/7 reliability and accountability for the Harris J25 Trunked Radio system, onsite Pager System, and Distributed Antenna Service (DAS).

This position will be filled at either the Network Professional 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Network Professional 2 ($83,900 - $136,600)

As a Network Professional 2, you will engage your knowledge of test equipment for Trunked radio systems and hand-held radios to support Laboratory internal communication systems. You will be asked to develop documents for various needs, including for users and support technicians.

Network Professional 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, you will serve as a subject-matter expert on portable communications equipment. You will be expected to serve as the project lead on new and existing projects for Trunked radios, pager systems, and Distributed Antenna Services (DAS). You will also be responsible for educating end users on the operation of communication devices.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • At least two years of experience with telecommunication systems, methodologies, tools, and processes with specific focus on the following areas: Telecommunications design and construction; Outside Plant (OSP) design and Inside Plant (ISP) design; Customer Management
  • Valid state-issued Driver's License.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting radio and pager equipment.
  • Expertise in configuration and usage of Harris handheld radios.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Job Requirements for Network Professional 2:
  • Extensive experience with Harris System P25 Trunked radio systems.
  • Knowledge of tools such as Spectrum Analyzers, System Analyzers, watt meters, and multi-meters.
  • Demonstrated experience with configuration methods for Harris radios.
  • Project management experience related to bringing new communications systems onboard.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with federal facility rules and regulations on communication operations.
  • Expertise in the use of standard radio system and telecom testing equipment.
  • P25 system functionality and knowledge.
  • Maintenance schedule activities (safety, access, testing, and troubleshooting)
  • Active DOE Q clearance

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
