Postdoctoral Research Associate in Photoemission Spectroscopy of Quantum Materials

What You Will Do

We are seeking outstanding candidates to fill an immediate postdoctoral opening in static and ultrafast photoemission spectroscopy on quantum materials. The successful candidate will focus on establishing new capabilities in photoemission spectroscopy ranging from in-situ strain to the development of laser based light sources. Systems of interest include strongly correlated f-electron systems, topological materials, and low-dimensional materials. Some studies may also be performed at national user facilities, such as the Advanced Light Source, Linac Coherent Light Source, and the National Synchrotron Light Source II.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements: expertise in one or more of the following

• Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy

• X-ray photoemission spectroscopy

• Ultrahigh vacuum

• Nonlinear optics for DUV (> 6 eV) generation

• Strong background in condensed matter physics

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Education/Experience: A Ph. D. in a relevant field completed within the past 5 years or soon to be completed.

Desired Qualifications:

• Knowledge and implementation of in-situ strain cells in UHV conditions

• Expertise in surface preparation and treatment

• Labview software and programming

• Data analysis/modeling using MATLAB, Igor Pro, or an equivalent program

• A strong background in fundamental physical processes of topological materials, and strongly correlated electron materials

• Ability to work independently

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
