The Gas Transfer Systems Group (Q-7) is seeking a driven and experienced Production Liaison Engineer (R&D Engineer 3) to support critical production and surveillance missions at Savannah River Site (SRS). In this role, you'll lead and coordinate technical efforts focused on gas transfer systems integral to the nation's nuclear weapons program. Your primary responsibility will be the oversight and coordination of production and surveillance activities, ensuring excellence in quality, reliability, and safety.
You will act as the technical liaison between the Savannah River Site production agency, the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise [SRTE], and the LANL GTS design agency. We are seeking a seasoned engineering professional with a strong foundation in program leadership to oversee our production program, ensuring alignment between technical operations and strategic organizational goals. Leveraging your strong technical, professional, and leadership background, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify, analyze, and resolve complex production issues. You'll also influence strategic decisions, drive continuous improvement, and facilitate effective communication between technical, operational, and managerial teams.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Engineering Expertise:
- Proven knowledge and experience in mechanical, chemical, materials engineering, or related technical fields.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Extensive hands-on experience with production, surveillance, or R&D for GTS.
Technical Leadership & Problem Solving:
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, set strategic direction, manage priorities, and achieve milestones.
- Proven record of applying innovative solutions to solve complex engineering problems.
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects concurrently with minimal supervision.
Production and Surveillance Experience:
- Experience overseeing manufacturing processes, certifications, quality assurance, or surveillance activities in highly regulated environments.
- Familiarity with production agency operations, qualification processes, and interfacing effectively with external stakeholders.
Communication and Team Collaboration:
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proven success collaborating across multiple organizational boundaries and fostering inclusive, high-performing teams.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior experience specifically in gas transfer systems or nuclear weapons production processes.
- Experience with engineering authorization systems, document management (such as PDM Link), and specification management.
- Understanding of the technical interfaces (mechanical/ electrical) associated with nuclear weapon systems.
- Experience interacting with NNSA National Laboratories, production agencies, or similar high-consequence technical organizations.
- Current or previous DOE/NNSA Q-clearance or ability to obtain one.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
