Work Control is a multidisciplinary group, providing deployed support to all Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) for maintenance planning, scheduling, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support. The MSS-Work Control group uses Integrated Work Management to plan, schedule, and perform work in a safe and secure manner.
The Maintenance Support Specialist 4 position provides direct or indirect support to the maintenance function of a facility through the implementation and/or administrative control of a variety of maintenance programs, policies, functions, and objectives. This position also verifies that maintenance activities are performed within technical specifications, manufacturer's requirements, and/or generally accepted industry practices.
This position will:
- Participate in detailed schedule development for the planning and execution of all tasks for the assigned workweek. Ensure activities are coordinated to minimize safety challenges and can be worked effectively and efficiently.
- Provide influence, with minimal oversight, to all department planners, schedulers, work execution groups, operations support groups, and other support personnel for the development of effective work documents, accurate schedules, performance of work execution and close out of work.
- Review proper methodologies for work prioritization, ensuring the right work is done in the right time frame (AP-WORK-001).
- Evaluate scheduling execution performance data and help improve efficiency where needed. Incorporate an effective feedback loop that promotes and ensures continual process improvement.
- Ensure daily open communication with support groups to ensure compliance, availability, productivity, and effectiveness
- Assist in long-range planning that includes major design changes and predictive and periodic maintenance activities
- Participate in outage development and coordination.
- Investigate, recommend, and develop method improvements impacting the areas of safety, work implementation, planning, scheduling, and acceptance testing.
- May forecast and plan resources necessary to support maintenance activities.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Strategic Communication:
Extensive skill to professionally communicate elements of facility maintenance. Ability to fully understand work control, maintenance and/or materials management. Demonstrated leadership skills to include experience mentoring employees in lower-level positions.
Business Systems & Processes:
Ability to fully understand facility maintenance policies, practices, and procedures. Ability to fully utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system, personal computer software, and site licensed programs in creating and maintaining maintenance reports.
Knowledge & Expertise:
In-depth understanding of work control, maintenance and/or materials management. Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Ability to fully understand and interpret various mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Q Clearance.
- Full understanding of the LANL maintenance and facility policies, practices, and procedures.
- Prior experience in T-Week scheduling coordination.
- Experience in Facility Operations, Engineering and/or Maintenance.
- Extensive knowledge of LANL work control policies.
- In-depth experience using Asset Suite and Mobile Work Package.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
