About Us

Support our nation and build a great career.

Los Alamos National Laboratory’s mission is to solve national security challenges through excellence. We focus on integrating research and development solutions to achieve the maximum impact on strategic priorities. In addition, through our partnerships across government agencies, laboratories, universities, and industry, we deliver the best possible science and technology results for the nation.

As a senior laboratory in the Department of Energy (DOE) complex, we contribute toward DOE’s mission to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental, and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.

We also perform work for the Department of Defense, intelligence community, and Department of Homeland Security, among others. As a result, our strategy reflects U.S. priorities related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security.

We Are a Good Neighbor.

We contribute to the quality of life in northern New Mexico through economic development, education excellence, and community partnerships. In addition to contributing to a robust economy by employing more than 14,000 people, we work with small businesses in Northern New Mexico and partner with various agencies to offer jobs and opportunities for students. Our employees also play a large role in giving back, including participating in our annual Giving Campaign and payroll deduction options. Some of the results of these efforts include:

  • Employees donated:
  • The Laboratory organized 17 blood drives with 658 donors giving 771 units of blood, enough to save 2517 lives.
  • 103 employees took part in 11 volunteer events organized by the Laboratory, helping nonprofits including Habitat for Humanity (Santa Fe), San Martin De Porres Soup Kitchen (Española), Khalsa Family Farms (Española), and Mesa-to-Mesa/New Mexico Ramp Project.
  • The Food Depot honored the Laboratory with its Corporate Lifetime Giving Award for 2022, in recognition of the long-standing generosity of employees and the further support of Laboratory operator Triad. In the 2022 Laboratory Food Drive employees donated $57,648 and 587 pounds of food, providing 233,527 meals to Northern New Mexicans. In addition, 51 employees took part in five volunteer events.
