Los Alamos National Laboratory Ultrafast Light-Matter Interactions in Quantum Materials Postdoc in Albuquerque, New Mexico
What You Will Do
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to fill an opening at the Laboratory for Ultrafast Materials and Optical Science (LUMOS), within the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The successful candidate will focus on performing ultrafast optical, terahertz, and even X-ray spectroscopy of quantum materials, with a particular focus on generating vortex beams of intense, ultrashort pulses and using them for nonlinear optics, especially at the nanoscale. Material systems of interest include low-dimensional quantum nanostructures as well as strongly correlated electron systems and topological materials. The experimental systems available for these projects include several amplified femtosecond laser systems with wavelengths tunable from soft X-ray to THz frequencies, high field superconducting magnets, scanning probe microscopy setups, and an angle-resolved photoemission system. Candidates will be located at the CINT Core Facility in Albuquerque, outside of Sandia National Laboratories.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Expertise in one or more of the following areas: femtosecond optical spectroscopy, terahertz spectroscopy, ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy, or time-integrated optical spectroscopy (e.g., FTIR and/or Raman spectroscopy).
Strong background in condensed matter physics.
Demonstrated experience with oral presentations and written journal publications.
Education/Experience : A Ph. D in a relevant field completed within the past 5 years or soon to be completed.
Knowledge of ultrafast lasers and pulse shaping, nonlinear optics, Labview software and programming, data analysis/modeling using MATLAB or an equivalent program.
Background in fundamental physical processes occurring in topological materials, strongly correlated electron materials, and/or low-dimensional quantum nanostructures.
Note to Applicants: Contact Rohit Prasankumar for more details ( email@example.com , 505-284-7966).
This position will be physically located in Albuquerque, NM.
Vaccination Requirement :
The COVID vaccine is mandatory for all Laboratory employees, on-site contractors, and on-site subcontractors unless granted an accommodation under applicable state or federal law. This requirement will apply to those working on-site, those teleworking, and all new hires.
