What You Will Do
The Accounting Manager is accountable for managing the Accounts Receivable team that is responsible for activities associated with receivables for Strategic Partnership Projects (SPP), Other Federal Agencies (OFA), Integrated Contractors (IC), Non-Federal Entities (NFE), Inter-Governmental Personnel Agreements (IPA), Royalties and Licenses, Corporate and Employees. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Billing, collections, reconciliations, internal reporting and Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) reporting.
Development and maintenance of accounting controls systems, analysis and interpretation of trends requiring management’s attention, the preparation of financial and management reports and procedures, and the presentation of findings and specific recommendations to senior management.
Perform research on accounting and business issues and provide informed opinions and alternatives, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and take action to implement solutions.
Provide a high level of support in the areas of business analysis and business strategy.
Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, preparing performance assessments, reviewing the work of the accountants on the team, and developing staff.
Serve as an advisor regarding the coordination and oversight of accounting requirements.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Extensive knowledge of accounting/financial concepts and principles to include Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and proper application of internal controls for accounting operation.
Broad understanding of accounting and finance functions such as accounts payable (A/P), property, payroll, accounts receivable (A/R), budgeting, tax, etc.
Demonstrated experience with a large accounting operation, including applicable tax reporting requirements.
Demonstrated skills in making sound business decisions that affect internal and external customers, to include interpretation and enforcing Laboratory policies to ensure compliance and meet audit requirements.
Demonstrated record of forming and fostering successful cross-organizational teams to solve complex problems.
Experience with particular emphasis on managing complex organizations with diverse operations combined with demonstrated record of effective teamwork and leadership.
Demonstrated aptitude for mentoring, developing and motivating employees.
Must be able to prioritize multiple priorities and successfully manage work to timely completion.
Ability to identify process improvements and develop strategies and procedures to implement improvements.
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and customers.
Advanced organizational skills to establish priorities and execute business and financial assignments
Experience using Enterprise software in support of business operations is a plus.
Technical acumen for information technology is a plus.
MBA/CPA or advanced degree in a related field.
Effective management of a complex organization subject to government regulations including disbursements and experience with DOE regulations.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field plus extensive experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The financial management focus of the Finance & Accounting (FA) Division includes integrating processes and systems across the Division, providing quality business processes and systems throughout the Laboratory, and partnering with the programs and technical divisions to strengthen business capabilities. FA provides stewardship of Laboratory, Triad National Security, LLC, (TNS), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and sponsor resources, building alliances with NNSA, DOE, Los Alamos Site Office (LASO), and the Albuquerque Service Center. FA supports LANL's business functions in Accounting, Budgeting, Financial Compliance, Corporate Reporting, Travel and Tax, Pension and Treasury.
The Controller’s organization is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations that support the mission of the Laboratory. These functions include General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Property Accounting, Accounts Payable, Travel Operations, Payroll/Craft Payroll, Benefits Accounting, Corporate Reporting, Treasury/Tax and Financial Systems.
