Los Alamos National Laboratory Audiovisual Technician/Services Specialist 1 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Would you like to put your technical audiovisual skills to work to support one of the worlds most prestigious and innovative multidisciplinary research institutions? If so, then we invite you to learn more about our opening for a multimedia position to support organizations and programs at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

Communications and External Affairs (CEA) Division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Media Production/Services Specialist 1 for the Protocol and Media Production (CEA-PRO) group. You will be part of a team that is responsible for the operation and support of several auditoriums and conference rooms at TA-55.

Responsibilities include but not be limited to:

  • A/V support for customers at TA-55. This includes classified and unclassified audiovisual support.

  • Audio/video operation for large auditoriums and conference rooms.

  • Troubleshooting and basic A/V engineering of presentation and video capture systems in auditoriums and conference rooms.

  • Live video capturing/broadcasting (via WebEx) of presentations, training classes and lectures.

  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with customers, technical staff, and Laboratory senior management.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Audio/Visual Expertise

For this role you will need experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining fixed A/V installations in an auditorium, conference room or theater setting. As well as, experience with basic A/V engineering or presentation venue design (fixed multi-camera capture systems, microphones and audio boards, stage lighting, projectors and LCD screens, podium and IP audiovisual systems, and EDID knowledge.

Customer Service

You must have a demonstrated record of excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Performance Under Pressure

For this role you must have experience performing professionally under high pressure situations. For example, live presentations or live recordings in full auditoriums and broadcast to thousands of viewers.

Continuous Learning

To succeed in this position you must have a willingness to learn and adapt to new communication and presentation technology, styles and standards, as the multimedia industry and Laboratory’s needs change.

Education/Experience : Position typically requires a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Active Clearance

It would be nice if you had an active Q Security Clearance

Presentation Technology

  • It would be great if you had knowledge of presentation technology (e.g., computer display output formats, projectors and LCD screens, microphones, switchers and feedback eliminators, etc.).

  • Familiarity with Crestron systems.

Project Management

It would be a plus if you had basic project management knowledge and experience in coordinating projects.

Laboratory Visitors

It would be nice if you had knowledge of security procedures, policies, and practices involving Laboratory visitors.

High-Visibility Events

It would be great if you had experience with scheduled high-visibility events in high-pressure corporate environments (e.g., Keeping A/V systems running well during a presentation in an auditorium filled with hundreds of people and broadcast live to thousands.).

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico and will require an onsite presence.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
