Los Alamos National Laboratory Building Automation Controls Post Bachelors Student in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The BAS Controls Intern will work with the Building Automation and Data Acquisition team within Institutional Facilities Group which includes a small dynamic team of controls engineers, computer scientists, IT, networking, and electronics and field technicians. These team members work closely with and support Operations and the Sustainability Program goals for energy efficiency through the ongoing maintenance and operation of the building automation systems and building performance analytics. Team members also provide technological solutions and support for data collection, analysis, dash boarding, design modifications and other technical support to Utilities.

The internship provides mentoring, hands-on technical experience, and professional development opportunities through a formalized work plan complementing the student’s engineering education. Job duties will include:

  • Create functions for analytics and virtual metereing

  • Provide field support for BAS controls of facility HVAC systems

  • Work with BAS Team to conform with Sustainablilty standards, design dashboards for energy management and analyze performance of HVAC systems and energy usage for laboratory buildings

  • Assist in utlizing BAS controls and equipment issues through the SkySpark analytics and fault detection system and create facility service requests (FSRs) for documenting maintenance requests.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s Degree program in any Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline.

  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours

· Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

Desired Qualifications:

Students selected for the Post-Baccalaureate Student Internship Program in Engineering are most competitive when they possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Computer programming in support of engineering data analysis, such as Python, JavaScript, R, C++, SQL, APIs, and SharePoint;

  • BAS applications, such as Automated Logic, Alerton, Trane, JCI;

This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM. On-site at the lab with a project team.
