Los Alamos National Laboratory Computational High Energy Density and Materials Physics Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Physics and Chemistry of Materials group of the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in computational physics of warm dense matter and hot dense plasmas. The candidate will primarily perform novel stochastic and mixed stochastic-deterministic Kohn Sham Density functional Theory calculations of materials in extreme conditions using a LANL developed code. The candidate may also contribute to DFT theory, algorithm, and software development.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated expertise in one of the following: o Electronic Structure of condensed matter o Quantum Chemistry o Density Functional Theory
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated experience in conducting original scientific research through peer reviewed publication record.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience modeling Warm Dense Matter or Matter in Extreme conditions
High Performance Computing
Experience with Kohn Sham and/or Orbital-Free Density Functional Theory
Experience with packages such as VASP, ABINIT, Quantum Espresso, Q-Box
Software Development, particularly in Fortran and using MPI
Equation of State Development
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
Ability to adapt to new requirements for projects and be flexible enough to learn new areas of research as needed.
Education: Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, Materials Science, or an equivalent field within the last 5 years or soon to be completed.
