What You Will Do
Become part of a dynamic research and development team that performs mechanical, thermal and fluid experimental investigations of components and systems for a wide variety of accelerator and reactor applications. The successful applicant will serve as the primary technician supporting these experimental programs. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, self-starter, responsible for taking command of the laboratory space, organizing tools, spare parts and storage for optimal access, cleanliness and safety.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to understand and implement the requirements of a research and development experimental assembly. This work would include tasks such as: installing support structures, enclosures, piping and instruments for these experiments.
Demonstrated ability to serve as a contributing team member in the experimental design and assembly process.
Demonstrated proficiency with all manner of hand tools.
Demonstrated ability to read part and assembly drawings and work independently from drawings to set up systems and experiments.
Experience and ability to perform non-energized electrical work.
Experience with piping and tubing assemblies, including connector types and system construction techniques.
Knowledge and experience with vacuum systems.
Experience with basic wiring, fabrication, welding and machining practices and techniques.
Ability and willingness to select and procure parts and supplies, and to interact with other shops and machinists to complete the production of parts and equipment from drawings.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Lifting 50 lbs, carrying 30 lbs with both hands. Reaching overhead, laterally and down. Applying torque with hands or arms. Understand the hazards and safety requirements of all activities ongoing in the laboratory space.
Work Environment: A fast paced laboratory environment with the possibility of multiple activities operating simultaneously.
Education: Position require an Associates’ Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training and/or certification may be expected.
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
