What You Will Do
The Technology Applications Group (A-3) is looking for a motivated candidate to come and join our dynamic team! A-3 uses a broad range of engineering and scientiﬁc expertise to support nuclear counter proliferation (NCP), nuclear counter terrorism (NCT), nuclear emergency response (ER) missions, defense, intelligence, and emerging technologies. To enable rapid development and response for our customers, we maintain a moderate staﬀ shop capability. We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and experienced technologist looking to challenge themselves by still fabricating product, but also expanding beyond the metal shop. The selected individual will incorporate CNC programming and machining, 3D additive manufacturing, sheet metal forming, welding and cutting, and a variety of other supporting technologies. You will interact with engineers, technicians, and customers as part of a team to transform their concepts and designs into deliverable products often needed on short timescales to meet Global Security demands. When time allows, you may also be asked to help with assembly work, hardware testing, ﬁeld experimentation, and customer training. Most project work is conducted at the Q and SCI levels.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Quality Experience: Experience in drawing interpretation, tolerancing, and in-process inspection
Prioritizing: Ability to work under tight deadlines to estimate work execution, track and report progress, and help set your own priorities to meet schedule and budget limitations
Technical Fabrication & Machining Experience: Experience with fabrication using a wide variety of materials including aluminum, steels, tungsten, brass, and plastics. A background in programming/operating CNC equipment to include 5-axis and wire EDM
Safety and Security: Demonstrated ability to handle classified hardware, support inventories, and adhering to safety and security requirements
Work Environment: Experience working outside the shop to support assembly, test setup, and experimentation
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Experience with sheet metal fabrication, forming, and joining
Ability to weld a range of materials and skilled with plasma cutting
Be a forklift and crane operator
Able to submit RRB orders or other purchasing experience
Experience with additive manufacturing or a willingness to learn
Experience with 3D CAD software for modeling and translator files for 3D proto work (metal or plastic)
Capable of troubleshooting, maintaining, and tuning shop equipment; and general electromechanical skills
Vacuum or pressure systems experience with assembly, test, or component selection
Familiarity with chemical use and waste generator requirements
Excellent interpersonal skills and highly collaborative in a team environment, yet also able to work alone when necessary to support proposals, brainstorm ideas, and to develop new techniques
This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
