Los Alamos National Laboratory Health and Safety Tec 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Occupational Safety and Health – Industrial Safety and Hygiene (OSH-ISH) Industrial Hygiene Team Leader, the Health and Safety (H&S) Tech 3 will be responsible for supporting various programs including excavation safety, forklifts, and fall protection with other duties, as assigned. The OSH-ISH group is a key component of the OSH Division, within the ESHQSS Associate Level Directorate.

Providing administrative and technical support to Health and Safety programs, initially in the form of executing clerical tasks and conducting site visits, as the main duty assignments. Precise recordkeeping is a critical function of this role, as is the ability to accommodate large influxes of customer and expedited processing requests. Timely and accurate processing of customer requests is paramount for success in this role. As a H&S Tech 3, you will provide direct support to the field implementation of the health and safety programs through the execution of workplace surveillances and the analysis, interpretation, and documenting of data. The successful candidate will be required to complete and maintain training and qualification coursework.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Precise and timely recordkeeping, written documentation processing and deliverable execution.

  • Ability to comprehend technical and regulatory documents as they pertain to health and safety.

  • Working knowledge of and experience with industrial hygiene and safety hazards and the application of controls.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to industrial hygiene and safety, including 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.

  • Experience working with health and safety instrumentation.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, modify, and implement/follow technical procedures.

  • Ability to work independently and as team member with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communications skills.

  • Working knowledge of and experience with industrial hygiene/safety risk assessments and corrective actions.

  • Experience with personal computers (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, security, quality, and customer service.

  • Ability to regularly lift 35 pounds.

  • Applicant must have the ability to obtain a Q, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience providing ESH oversight of subcontractor activities.

  • Experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards, and regulations in several IH & Safety program areas.

  • Experience supporting a technical operation consisting of a large (>2000 individuals) clientele.


  • Position typically requires a technical institute/associate degree in health and safety or related field plus 2 to 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Note to Applicants:

  • Occasional travel to, and work in, other government and private facilities may be required.

  • The H&S Tech 3 will perform work in an office setting as well as supporting the excavation team in field environments. Possibly utilizing personal protective clothing, dosimetry, self-monitoring and bioassay monitoring as a condition to access and work in many LANL facilities/areas.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
