What You Will Do
The Sensitive & Special Operations (SSO) Division provides a secure and compliant TS/SCI level environment for the execution of National Security programs through the use of classified networks and systems. The Special Security IT & Cyber Operations group (SSO-3) currently manages several classified networks and has an ongoing commitment to provide desktop, server, and network support and services to the LANL Field Intelligence Element (FIE) and other Government agency Intelligence Community users.
We are seeking an experienced cyber security professional to join our team as an Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE). The Cyber Security Team plans, coordinates, and assists with security compliance and accreditation related to physical network and IT systems, including security plan management, TEMPEST, and COMSEC. The ISSE contributes this dynamic team by:.
Working as a self-motivated contributor to the cybersecurity and compliance of LANL’s cyber physical systems
Representing the best interests of LANL/FIE and the LANL customer base
Development of the PRIVORO system
Assisting in the development of SCIF accreditation packages, including COMSEC and TEMPEST
Assisting in the development and processing of ATO packages
Partnering with LANL/FIE IT stakeholders, IT management, and federal oversight partners to support compliant IT initiatives
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Advanced knowledge of information security practices, policies or procedures
Experience composing technical documentation such as IT security plans
Advanced knowledge of and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: computer science, information security, information assurance, or cyber security
Demonstrated success in supporting mission organizations through IT based solutions
Demonstrated success in taking initiative and implementing process improvements
Excellent team member
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical issues with both technical and non-technical audiences
Advanced knowledge of institutional tools/technologies and their various applications
Advanced knowledge of DOE-IN and national policies related to information assurance
Technical knowledge of networking technologies and concepts
Experience with IT/cyber audits and assessments
Experience with COMSEC and TEMPEST
Master’s degree in a related technical field
Active Q clearance or DoD Top Secret and SCI clearances is highly desired
Education: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. An advanced degree in a relevant technical field is desired.
Note to Applicants: Work will be performed primarily on-site at laboratory property. Duties may require work at remote locations across multiple facilities at LANL. Some travel may be required for training and certification purposes.

The Sensitive and Special Operations (SSO) Division is responsible for the certification, accreditation, and compliant operation of all LANL SCIFs and Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs), as well as providing security and operational oversight for all IW (Intelligence Work) conducted at LANL. It is the Division’s responsibility to provide the infrastructure and operational support to facilitate successful execution of intelligence programs while maintaining the integrity of a comprehensive security program. This is accomplished through routine interface with a diverse assortment of sponsor representatives and program security personnel.

Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter.
