What You Will Do

SAFE-NMCA is seeking a knowledgeable team member for the Nuclear Material Control & Accountability/Performance Assurance Team to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the Laboratory’s nuclear material control program through performance of assessments, effectiveness evaluations, performance testing, and material balance area (MBA) walk down activities.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of auditing concepts and principles, plus working knowledge of related activities gained from specialized work in a nuclear material control and accountability environment.

  • In-depth experience in leading the conduct of assessments and effectiveness evaluations for all element areas of nuclear material control and accountability.

  • In-depth experience in the creation, conduct and reporting of nuclear material control and accountability performance tests.

  • In-depth experience and demonstrated skills in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing thorough, concise, and objective reports.

  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, written and oral communications.

  • Excellent time management skills as demonstrated by the ability to work both independently and in a team environment on multiple projects with varying priorities and deadlines.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications for report generation, presentation and trending.

  • Demonstrated experience interacting successfully with all levels of workers, management and customers.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience utilizing the Red-Network.

  • Experience utilizing LANMAS.

  • Experience interacting with Laboratory offices and external agencies, comfortable representing the Laboratory to outside agencies.

  • Expert knowledge of Laboratory policies and procedures process.

  • Expert knowledge and experience in implementing P322-4, Laboratory Performance Feedback and Improvement Process.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a security computer science, management information systems science, engineering or related field and 8 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree desirable.

Additional Details:

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

The Nuclear Material Control & Accountability group (SAFE-NMCA) provides safeguards support to ensure effective accountability and control of nuclear materials at the Laboratory. The group ensures Laboratory compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) orders and requirements and the LANS contract in a cost-effective manner by providing guidance, support, and oversight using an integrated approach and technically driven solutions.
