The Network Professional 3 will be a trusted advisor and lead for maintaining the Network Operations Center’s monitoring tools and applications. As subject matter expert, you will perform duties related to implementation and maintenance of LANL’s monitoring tools on open and classified networks. This role requires server administration experience, network administration experience and experience with network monitoring tools, applications, and related technologies. NIE-CS is a customer-focused group, which has the primary duty of daily 24/7 support and operation of LANL’s networks and is responsible for monitoring, managing and maintaining all network assets on all LANL networks.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Practical knowledge of TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting connectivity issues. Knowledge of current network technology including network protocols (IP, VLANS, spanning-tree, BGP, OSPF), network infrastructure elements including services and related protocols (SNMP, syslog). Advanced knowledge and experience managing windows servers and installed applications. Experience managing servers in a virtualized environment.
Tools and Systems
Experience provisioning & administering network equipment. Experience installing and administering, network monitoring tools and applications. Experience generating network reports on health of network. Experience running network traffic analysis via packet capture software. Windows server administration and experience administering servers with vmware. Experience providing solutions for an extensive and diverse range of complex network problems
Technical Communication & Collaboration
Excellent written and oral technical communication skills as demonstrated by ability to communicate complicated technology concepts to multiple employees and end-users. Demonstrated experience working as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team, as well as the ability to train and mentor junior technicians and work under minimal direct supervision.
Education/Experience :Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of eight years of technical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and/or supporting at least three of the following: Enterprise network monitoring tools, VLANs, VPNs, IPSEC, Cisco IOS & NX-OS, Juniper, ACLs, BGP, OSPF, and IP subnetting. Demonstrated experience with fiber/copper including (tracing and running cables, types of fiber and associated optics) Cisco devices, and Arista switches. Experience administering and maintaining enterprise-level wireless. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Ethernet, VPN (IPSec, SSL), VoIP, WiFi, TCP/IP. Experience creating detailed network reports.
Tools and Systems
Demonstrated experience with network monitoring tools such as solarwinds, hpna, spectrum, prtg. Experience with ticketing and incident management tools. Experience installing, managing, & maintaining enterprise network monitoring tools managing thousands of devices. Experience creating device standards to meet compliancy policies and documenting standards. Experience creating /modifying network Diagrams (Visio, Office.)
Network Certifications, Cisco or juniper certifications preferred
Experience using LANL or other DOE systems.
Active DOE “Q” clearance

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
