Los Alamos National Laboratory Operational Assurance Specialist 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Repor ti ng to the Occupa ti onal Safety and Health – Industrial Safety and Hygiene (OSH‐ISH) Group Leader, the Operational Assurance Specialist 3 will be responsible for mining and extracting OSH data to analyze existing and emerging risks using quantitative analytics and data visualization. You will a ssist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of OSH processes, procedures, and applications contributing to the overall objective of maintaining an effective operational assurance program.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Advanced experience in developing and implementing procedures and processes related to causal factor determinations, trending and analysis, lessons learned, and/or process improvement activities.

  • Advanced experience assessing and analyzing complex information identify programmatic issues and use of state-of-the art tools to assist in assessing and analyzing this information.

  • Advanced experience developing trending and analysis reports .

  • Advanced experience providing technical support in developing and maintaining routine and innovative operational assurance trending and analysis tools and processes.

  • Advanced knowledge in implementing data platforms and assisting with strategic decisions on new systems.

Training/Certifications: Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt preferred.

Education/Experience : This p osition requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, postgraduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiar with RASCI model of project management .

  • Knowledge of and experience with OSH regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of common and unique work hazards, occupational safety practices, operating configuration and procedures.

  • Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting OSH operational assurance.

  • Skills to conceptualize and communicate major elements of OSH operational assurance to both technical and non- technical personnel.

Located 7355 feet above sea level in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security via the Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). LANL’s 12,000 plus staff, post-docs, craft workers, students and contractors enhance national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns. The Mission is executed over 40 square miles within and around 1280 individual facilities with 9 million, under roof, square feet.

The Environment, Safety, Health, Quality, Security and Safeguards (ESHQSS) Associate Laboratory Directorate (ALD) mission is to support and enable the Laboratory to accomplish its assigned mission. Within ESHQSS is the Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Division, of which OSH-ISH is a crucial group. OSH-ISH tasks are varied, but they all have one focus: protection of workers, the public and the environment while getting work done. Our job is not to say no, but to say, “How can I help you safely accomplish your task?”

The OSH Division’s mission is to identify and control workplace hazards; prevent injuries and illnesses; develop policy and programs for biological, chemical and physical (non-radioactive) hazards; develop and provide training; maintain centralized data; encourage continual improvement in workplace safety and health; and manage safety concerns.

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Sitting, standing, climbing stairs, reaching overhead and down, bending, stooping and lifting 20-30 pounds.

Work Environment: Office work environment with regular contact with customer organizations to provide operational assurance information and activities.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to

serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
