Los Alamos National Laboratory Optical Spectroscopy of Nanomaterials Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_

Nanotechnology and Advanced Spectroscopy Team (NanoTech Team) of the Chemistry (C) is seeking outstanding candidates to join our projects on spectroscopic characterization of semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots) with focus on ultrafast and single-nanostructure spectroscopies. The NanoTech Team is a home to one of the most advanced optical-characterization facilities specializing in nanomaterials research within the DOE complex. Its three spectroscopic laboratories house a large collection of commercial and home-built spectroscopic tools for transient and steady-state optical and electro-optical measurements that allow for monitoring various electronic processes in both spectral and time domains across a wide range of spectral energies (from mid-IR to UV) and time scales (from tens of femtoseconds to milliseconds), and at both ensemble and single-nanostructure levels. Detailed information on Team’s research projects and capabilities is available at http://quantumdot.lanl.gov. For additional inquiries, please, contact Victor I. Klimov at klimov@lanl.gov.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Strong background in one or several areas from the following list: ultrafast spectroscopy, single-nanostructure (quantum-dot) spectroscopy, near-field microscopy/spectroscopy, scanning-tunneling microscopy, or high-magnetic field spectroscopy.

  • Demonstrated ability to work productively on multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated experience in gathering and interpreting technical data.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of ultrafast lasers and spectroscopic instrumentation, scanning-probe hardware, Labview software and programming, laser physics, solid-state physics, and nonlinear optics.

  • A Ph.D. completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.

Additional Details:

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Candidates may be considered for a Director's Postdoc Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Richard P. Feynman, Darleane Christian Hoffman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Distinguished Postdoc Fellowships.

For general information go to Postdoc Program.
