Los Alamos National Laboratory Process and Sampling Tec 2/3 (Calibration Technician) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Process & Sampling Technician 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Join the Los Alamos National Laboratory Standards and Calibration Laboratory (S&CL) as a calibration technician supporting LANL Programs and organizations that take make high impact and high consequence measurements in support of National Science and Security. The S&CL is ISO 17025 accredited and provides National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) traceable dimensional, electrical, and physical calibrations. The S&CL is a learning organization focused on providing excellent customer service by providing exceptional calibration quality.

This is a calibration technician position responsible for performing and documenting calibrations of customer measurement and test equipment in one or more assigned calibration areas (e.g. dimensional, electrical, physical). Types of calibration may include, but are not limited to, shock, vibration, mass, balance, voltage, current, frequency, etc. We are looking for an enthusiastic employee who is inquisitive with a passion for detail, a strong desire to learn, and a genuine interest in making measurement science a career.

Process & Sampling Technician 2 $47,400 - $72,900

Performs simple to moderately complex measurement and test equipment calibrations in limited assigned area/s using established procedures. Responsible for accurately documenting calibration results. Must adhere to quality and technical procedures to ensure quality results. This position requires calibration-related familiarity, knowledge, ability, and experience.

Process & Sampling Technician 3 $52,200 - $80,800

The Process & Sampling Technician 3 performs a broader range of calibration (either within the area or in multiple areas) or more complex calibrations in limited areas. Provides support of accreditation, bench operability, and/or quality control efforts. Provides limited bench operability support the metrology engineers. This position requires complete and expert knowledge, advanced skill and experience in calibration.

What You Need

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience performing physical and/or dimensional calibrations in Federal or a commercial calibration laboratory or company.

  • Demonstrated familiarity of calibration concepts, requirements, and processes.

  • Experience in following administrative, quality, and technical procedures.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collective team.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position typically requires a recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or specialized courses in related engineering discipline, or American Society for Quality Inspector Certifications; or one year of satisfactory performance as a receipt inspector 1 in the corresponding inspection, examination, or testing activities.

Additional Job Requirements for Process and Sampling Tec 3:

  • In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Advanced experience performing physical and/or dimensional calibrations

  • Advanced skill to conceptualized and communicate major elements of a calibration

  • Familiarity in monitoring calibration equipment/system trends

  • Familiarity with measurement uncertainties, Test Uncertainty Ratios, and guard banding principles

Education/Experience at higher level: Position typically requires a recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or specialized courses in related engineering discipline, or American Society for Quality Inspector Certifications; or six years of satisfactory performance as a receipt inspector 2 or 3 in the corresponding inspection, examination, or testing activities or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of calibration-related Laboratory Information Management Systems

  • Certified Calibration Technician certification

  • Ability to occasionally travel

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
