Los Alamos National Laboratory Process Monitor (Material Controls & Accountability Specialist 3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Material Control and Accountability Group (SAFE-NMCA) is looking for experienced professionals to work in the Material Control and Accountability program while partnering closely with operations/weapons to ensure that all LANL and Federal requirements are met while optimizing efficiency and success for the important work being accomplished in Material Balance Areas.
This position will be filled at either the Material Control & Accountability Specialist 3 /4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Material Control & Accountability Specialist 3 ($83,300 - $136,200)
You will support the success of the NMCA group through varied and challenging tasks such as: analyzing statistical models to identify potential issues and determine whether or not processes are in control; interpreting and identifying nuclear transactions to ensure good business practices and adherence to domestic and international policies on accounting for nuclear materials; adhering to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to nuclear material control & accountability; ensuring all nuclear materials accountability results, materials, processes and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements; and working closely with operations staff within assigned Material Balance Areas (MBA’s) to support mission success while ensuring accountability of all material and adhrerance to all applicable policies/procedures.
Material Control & Accountability Specialist 4 ($91,800 - $151,400)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you would be required to: conduct audits and appraisals of selected processes/functions to ensure compliance with applicable policies/processes; work closely with management at all levels to support mission success while ensuring accountability of all material and adhrerance to all applicable policies/procedures and activly work to develop and modify statistics based models used to account for special nuclear material.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Advanced knowledge, experience and scientific and/or technical excellence in at least one of the following areas: nuclear instruments and methods, nuclear safeguards, security management, or experimental nuclear science and engineering.
Experience in at least one of the following: nuclear facility operations, MBA custodian duties, application of NMCA requirements of process operations, or chemical/physical processes dealing with nuclear material.
Advanced-level knowledge and experience with nuclear materials packaging, storage, transportation, treatment, and disposal, chemical processing, MC&A technology development, measurement system development, modeling of complex data.
Advanced knowledge of MC&A requirements as outlined in DOE M 474.2.
Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel for report generation, presentation and trending.
Additional Job Requirements for Material Control & Accountability Specialist 4:
In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Material Control & Accountability Specialist 4 level requires:
Proficient experience generating concise and accurate reports to a wide audience, both internal and external to the Laboratory. Experience writing technical procedures, technical data interpretation and presentation.
Demonstrated experience developing and using statistical analysis models and controls in nuclear material control, manufacturing, or processing environments.
Extensive knowledge and experience with DOE Order requirements, MC&A implementation plans, and conduct of operations in nuclear facilities.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.
Master’s degree in science, engineering, mathematics, statistic or other STEM related field.
Advanced knowledge of LANL MC&A requirements as outlined in the LANL Nuclear Material Control and Accountability Plan (NMCA-PROG-FSD-001).
Knowledge of, and experience with, the use of models to manage real time quality control and/or MC&A functions/requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of operations at TA-55.
