Los Alamos National Laboratory Procurement Engineer (Engineering Technologist 1/2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Operational Readiness Implementation Group (ORI-3) is seeking skilled Procurement Engineers (Engineering Technologsit 1/2). The selected candidate(s) will perform Procurement Engineering activities for Essential Spare parts and Critical Spare parts, or individually assinged projects in support of the Laboratory’s ovrall mission.
Engineering Technologist 1 ($77,300 - $126,000)
This candidate will be responsible for extracting technical data from engineering drawings and specifictions to ensure materials procured meet design specifications as they pertain to national codes and standards as well as quality requirements. This individual will manage a consolidated bill of materials (CBOM), and interface with procurement and warehousing teams as materials are made available to support facility and programmatic objectives.
Engineering Technologist 2 ($85,400 - $139,600)
In addition to the duties outlined above for the the Engineering Technologist 1 level, the Engineering Technologist 2 should be able to work independently, effectively represent the ORI-3 Group in IPT and other meetings, and provide guidance to customers and junior personnel.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Familiarity with reviewing technical specifications and engineering design drawings to extract technical information.
Basic understanding of national codes and standards used to establish material characteristics.
Basic knowledge of QA standards and applicability.
Ability to handle multiple activities with minimum supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Access, Excel & Word, along with experience using other relevant software programs.
Ability to deliver clear and concise written and oral communication.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting to deliver outstanding customer service.
Basic understanding of the supply chain management process and strategies.
Additional Job Requirements for Engineering Technologist 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Experience with engineering principles and basic technical responsibilities, including design and systems technology.
Ability to work independently, and take initiative to perform tasks that will provide succinct communication and guidance.
Understanding and experience using QA standards, and familiarity with LANL Management Levels.
Familiarity with developing and submitting pre-procurement and submittal evidence packages.
Awareness of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
Previous materials management experience.
Ability to work and function with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with construction disciplines to include electrical, mechanical, fire protection
Familiarity with engineering technical standards to include ASTM and/or ASME standards.
Education/Experience for Engineering Technologist 1:
- Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience for Engineering Technologist 2:
- Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
