Los Alamos National Laboratory Project Field Superintendent 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

As a Superintendent 3, you will be responsible for, and lead projects >$500k. The Superintendent 3 will provide oversight to Superintendent 2s as necessary. May initiate the investigation of abnormal events, incidents, and/or accidents to identify the root cause and assist in implementing appropriate corrective actions. Responsible for planning, budgeting, managing and controlling costs and schedule performance for a project or subproject and serve as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget and technical performance. Ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work and perform variance analysis reviews, determine cause and effect of schedule or cost variance and define achievable corrective action plans. May be expected to present project management performance plans, status updates, trends, or issues to federal sponsors.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Applicant should display advanced knowledge and experience with construction management/supervision including a broad range of the following: systems engineering design and constructability, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, procurement procedures, facility control systems and earned value management systems.

  • Applicant should display advanced knowledge of all phases and complexity levels of construction projects, upgrades and renovations including participating in constructability reviews of the design process, familiarity with the ML determination process and the potential impacts to construction cost and schedule.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades.

  • Advanced knowledge of an Earned Value Management System as demonstrated through previous work assignments.

  • Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.

  • Experience managing resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a of minimum seven years’ relevant experience in maintenance and/or construction or 15 years of relevant experience in maintenance and/or construction (without a B.S. degree) leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above, or any combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Applicant should display working knowledge of LANL Zero-Accident Safety programs, or respective industry program.

  • Applicant should display a working knowledge and/or experience performing construction mods in and operating Nuclear Facility and/or High Hazard Facility.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
