What You Will Do

Come join our team! The selected IQPA Specialist candidate will be a member of the Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance-Assessment Support and Oversight (IQPA-ASO) group.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Use expert level knowledge and experience, to lead teams of technical and non-technical quality professionals in achieving the ASO group mission.

  • Lead oversight activities, to ensure quality work is executed consistently and effectively across the institution.

  • Plan, conduct, and report results of internal-independent assessments, surveillances, and audits, as well as audits of suppliers.

  • Apply knowledge and experience with concepts and principles to implement quality processes, programs and electronic tools for the institution.

  • Perform detailed reviews of quality documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory defined oversight requirements.

  • Prepare and present quality assurance reports.

  • Follow up on actions taken in response to audit findings to assure adequacy of completed corrective actions (effectiveness evaluations).

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Qualification at the QPA Specialist 4 level requires the following or (equivalent military training/experience):

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge and experience of 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D, national consensus standard ASME NQA-1—2008/ASME NQA-1a-2009 Addenda, NAP-24, and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series or equivalent to the above.

  • Demonstrated expert understanding of industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to quality and performance assurance.

  • Demonstrated expert skills in planning, conducting, and reporting of internal independent assessments, surveillances, and audits, including the development of audit/assessment checklists and reports.

  • Demonstrated expert ability in the preparation of quality assurance procedures for review, approval, and issues in accordance with governing documents.

  • Demonstrated advanced experience in conceptualizing and communicating major elements of quality and performance assurance to both technical and non-technical personnel.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated extensive skills in development of tools for quality and performance assurance program development, technical assessments, and corrective action plan development and review, and authoritative reporting to LANL organizations, DOE/NNSA, and contractor organizations.

  • Experience with various types of databases.

  • Knowledge of hazardous/nuclear materials safety practices.

  • Knowledge of and experience with weapons systems, weapons manufacturing, and/or weapons design operations and practices.

  • (Former or current) NQA-1 Lead Auditor certification and/or NQA-1 auditor qualification.

  • Active Q clearance (Top Secret clearance for military).

Education Required: QPA Specialist 4 - BS degree in engineering, quality assurance, industrial systems engineering, or related field and a minimum of 12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience including related military background.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

The Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance Division (IQPA) provides contractor assurance, institutional quality assurance, performance management, and independent assessment services to customers throughout the Laboratory.

The Assessment Support and Oversight (ASO) group provides objective evidence that Laboratory work meets quality requirements and is executed consistently and effectively across the institution. The ASO mission is to validate that Laboratory policies, programs and implementing activities meet regulatory and customer requirements and expectations. Oversight includes development and management of electronic systems in support of the mission of the IQPA division.
