Los Alamos National Laboratory Quality Engineer 2/3 &#8211; QC Inspector in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Quality Engineer, level 2 or 3, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Quality Engineer 2 – QC Inspector $85,400 – $139,600

As a quality engineer you will be apart of the Quality Support Services (IQPA-QSS) group and report to the IQPA-QSS group leader. The QSS mission is to support Institutional Programs and Projects to ensure quality requirements are met and implemented into processes by performing oversight and inspection activities to validate that specifications are being adhered to during construction, maintenance, and modification activities at LANL. You will be assigned to support both deployed and institutional inspection activities.

You will need to be capable of performing inspections as a Level II inspector in accordance with the requirements of N45.2.6. As the quality engineer you will have a minimum of 5 - 7 years’ experience performing inspections associated with construction, modification, maintenance or operational support.

Experience required will need to be in line with the requirements associated with each discipline that you are certified to perform. You will need to be capable of certification to one or more of the following disciplines: Electrical/Instrument and Control (I&C), Mechanical/Dimensional, Civil/Structural, Receipt Inspection/Material Control, Surveillance and Workmanship Inspection, Coatings, or Positive Material Identification (PMI)

You must have the ability to be Q Cleared, participate in Human Relaibilty Progam (HRP), and are able to work a Night or Back Work type schedule. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Attaining certification(s) based on LANL qualification and certification requirements, Maintaining certification(s) on an annual basis, performing Level II QC Inspections, being responsible and accountable for the control and review of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), and inspection/test reports prior to submittal, assisting in the development and updating of inspection procedures, reports/inspection forms/formats, protocols and checklists, and working with management and engineering personnel in conducting and reporting on inspection activities.

Quality Engineer 3 – QC Inspector $94,100 - $155,700

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this levelthe you would: Perform Level III QC inspections, proactively evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for corrective actions, pdevelop and update of inspection procedures, reports/inspection forms/formats, protocols and checklists, and perform duties of a Nonconformance Report Coordinator including the tracking, reporting and fostering timely closure of open nonconformance reports.

Additional Job Requirements for Quality Engineer 3 – QC Inspector:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:

  • Lead advanced quality control techniques in order to identify failure causes,

  • Review and report on selected engineering and procurement documents to assure the inclusion of

  • applicable quality requirements.

Education/Experience at lower level : This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and a minimum of 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Education/Experience at higher level : This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and a minimum of 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in communicating inspection results in a manner that provides understanding to non-technical personnel.

  • Experience reviewing manufacturing process/ component/ subassembly/ assembly documentation to ensure conformance with design and manufacturing requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to perform inspection activities and provide reporting deliverables in a timely and professional manner

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
