What You Will Do
The Sensitive and Special Operations (SSO) Division is seeking an experienced manager to serve as the Group Leader of the Special Security Information Technology & Cybersecurity Operations Group (SSO-3). SSO‐3 provides secure and compliant top‐secret communications and computing environments for execution of mission‐driven national security programs at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The SSO‐3 Group Leader provides leadership and management of IT and cybersecurity professionals responsible for development and operations of IT infrastructure, IT governance, risk management and compliance, and cyber security for information systems operated at LANL Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and Special Access Programs (SAPs). The SSO-3 group is responsible for:
Design, development, implementation, accreditation, and operation of SCI-level computer systems storage, networking, and communications systems.
IT and cybersecurity operations and customer (LANL, HQ, NNSA, DOE, other government agencies) support including consulting, technical support, and training.
Development, implementation, and maintenance of System Security Plans (SSPs) for top‐secret networks and systems operated within LANL (SCIFs).
Design, development, testing, implementation, and operation of IT and cyber security tools to establish an integrated defense of the LANL Intelligence Community.
The Group Leader position requires in‐depth technical understanding of programmatic needs and organizational objectives/missions and the ability to effectively negotiate and navigate challenges in order to guide execution to meet customer needs.
The successful candidate will:
Engage in regular interactions with Program, Project, and Functional (Line) Management to ensure effective dialog regarding customer requirements, current capabilities and future opportunities.
Effectively collaborate with institutional service providers and programmatic partners to inform technology and implementation decisions in order to foster efficiencies of scale and staffing flexibility to ensure successful project completion.
Participate as a member of the SSO Division Management Team to ensure effective implementation of institutional and organizational, mission, policies and procedures.
Organize and oversee teams and team leaders within the group to facilitate successful execution of operational, mission, objectives and delegation of work plans and assignments to team members. Ensure team leaders provide regular, productive feedback to employees.
Foster a collaborative culture and provide leadership to integrate the IT and cybersecurity functions to successfully meet program objectives.
Employ project management rigor for development efforts and process management techniques for effective operations.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Expertise & Project Management
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated success managing all technical aspects of IT and cyber projects including definition of deliverables, tactical planning, budgeting, and oversight and tracking of execution.
Demonstrated experience with enterprise-level IT development, deployment, and operations with an emphasis on systems that provide classified and high levels of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
An understanding across cyber security concepts, knowledge, abilities, including network and host system security issues, compliance, and certification with demonstrated success assembling a team to execute cybersecurity missions.
Excellent Leadership & Management
Success with collaboration and effectively communicating across organizational boundaries and the ability to manage customer expectations and build relationships in a positive manner.
Coaching and mentoring of staff in effective customer relationships, conflict management/resolution, and meeting deliverables.
Demonstrated knowledge of organizational behavior concepts and ability to engage best practices in managing group dynamics to achieve organizational goals.
Experience managing individuals who design, implement, accredit, and operate complex classified IT environments.
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledgeable in cyber security best practices and standards related to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) publications and Intelligence Community Directives and Standards (ICDs/ICSs).
Experience with implementation of contemporary and emerging cyber and IT technologies.
Demonstrated success managing complex classified computing environments at LANL operated facilities.
Knowledge of Risk Management Framework (RMF).
10 years of related management experience.
Active DOE Q and TS/SCI Clearance.
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
