What You Will Do

ASM-MM consists of four teams (receiving, distribution, shipping/traffic, and mail services). This position will serve as an advisor in the planning, coordination, and operational activities, specifically the hazardous and non-hazardous shipping function. The shipping and receiving teams handle approximately 15,000 and 191,000 packages, respectively, per year. It requires wide-ranging experience, using professional concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Frequently contribute to the development of corrective actions to resolve complex issues.

This position will support the Materials Management Group Office and will be responsible for developing an execution/implementation plan that covers work from conception to completion. This position will be responsible for maintaining all shipping procedures; developing and conducting management assessments; managing shipper training and qualification standards (for shippers); developing and managing group metrics and performance dashboards; leading special projects to streamline processes and procedures; developing Corrective Action Plans; and, assisting/supporting with development of group document control.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in all aspects of project management of technical and/or operational work in a shipping organization that handles all hazardous class and non-hazardous shipping and receiving.

  • Advanced knowledge of the technical and operational discipline of hazardous and non-hazardous shipping and regulations.

  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to hazardous and non-hazardous shipping including 49 CFR, IATA, and DOT.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective mid-level internal customer relationships with every level of management and Federal oversight.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully perform self-assessments, develop institutional metrics, develop and manage action plans.

  • Experience with developing shipping policy in collaboration with other shipping organizations to ensure compliant hazardous materials shipping, packaging, and handling.

  • Ability to obtain Q clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Active Q clearance.

  • Working knowledge of LANL policies.

  • Working knowledge of materials management policies and procedures.

Education:Position typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and at least eight years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
