Los Alamos National Laboratory Technical Trainer (Operations Support Specialist 4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Use your skills and subject matter expertise to deliver training programs for one of the most important research institutions in the world. As a part of the Operational Readiness Implementation, Training & Mission Services Group (ORI-1), you will be able to apply your excellent hands-on training delivery skillsets to serve a diverse population of employees within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP). Reporting directly to either the Programmatic Training or New Employee Training team First Line Manager (FLM), you will spend your day in a highly interactive and cooperative environment, with day-to-day duties that range from:

  • document/procedure analysis,

  • training development (i.e. lesson plans, training aids, on-the-job training, etc.),

  • learning management system administration,

  • course and On-the-Job Training (OJT) implementation and

  • providing training program guidance and mentorship to dedicated customers within the programmatic work scope.

This highly skilled individual is expected to be an expert in conducting ALDWP/TA-55 programmatic operations, including Glovebox Operator and Fissionable Material Handler (FMH) training programs.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Operational Functions

Advanced knowledge of business activities in an operational environment (e.g. nuclear facilities), including familiarity with all of the following: formality of operations, compliance practices, configuration management, training and qualification, and feedback and improvement.

On-the-Job Training Delivery

Advanced knowledge of on-the-job (OJT) training development, implementation and evaluation techniques, including, but not limited to: conducting live classroom training, lessons learned and continuing training topics, P300/P315 compliance briefings, Glovebox Operator OJTs, Fissionable Material Handler (FMH) OJTs.

Critical Thinking

Advanced ability to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions on problems affecting facility operations and operational quality assurance. Ability to effectively gather, compile and interpret technical information derived from multiple sources and match-up effective training delivery modes with the appropriately determined target audience.

Communication

Proven ability to conceptualize and communicate program requirements and detailed elements to both technical and non-technical personnel. Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications. Advanced ability in planning and executing to defined due dates, documenting actions completed, providing status on actions completed.

Customer Service

Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others in sometimes-stressful situations. Ability to interact professionally with all types of personnel, including external interfaces and executive management.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of twelve years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Additional Education and Training

Currently qualified Glovebox Operator (Level 1) and Glovebox Operator (Level 2), and certified Fissionable Material Handler (FMH).

Special Skills/Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of nuclear operations in PF-4, CMR and associated satellite facilities.

  • Advanced knowledge of DOE training, qualification, and readiness requirements as they pertain to a nuclear facility.

  • Team Leader, supervisor or other management experience in an operational environment.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
